OUR FOCUS
NeedPro Nurturing Support Service (NNSS) recognises that difficulties exist in identifying the appropriate intervention and resources to support our vulnerable Young People and Care Leavers, due to early life disruption.
For our young people and care leavers to be successful and reach their potential, identifying their basic needs and providing adequate support in meeting those needs is vital.
We believe that the basic Physiological needs of survival, which consist of warmth, security and safe accommodation is fundamental in human development. With this in mind, our service focuses on the bottom layer of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, motivational theory model of human needs.
It is evidenced by research theories, that the needs lower down in the hierarchy must be reasonably satisfied before individuals can attend to higher needs and actualise their full potential.
The higher up the hierarchy, the more difficult it is to satisfy the needs associated with that stage because of the interpersonal and environmental barriers that inevitably frustrate our young people. However, once that level is fulfilled, the next level up is what motivates our young people.
We believe that every young person is capable and has potential to move up the hierarchy toward a level of self-actualisation.
Therefore, our service is focused on encouraging and supporting our young people to self-achieve, through intellectual and creative behaviours.
